What the internet says: Not only has the Dunk Special Edition of Social Status captivated sneakerheads, but the story behind the project has resonated with audiences, who believe that Social Status has added real depth and authentic community spirit to the project.

What we say: Social Status shared that the release of the “Chocolate Milk” colorway of their upcoming Nike Dunk collab “Free Lunch” has been delayed. While previously the release date was set for September 4, it was later pushed back to September 10.

Similarly, the “Strawberry Milk” colorway was going to drop on September 18 but is now dropping on October 15, according to Social Status.

The sneaker, which was specially designed and created for Social Status, is neither a High, nor a Low, nor a Mid. This sneaker doesn’t exist outside of this collaboration, which makes it all the more special.

The inspiration for the project is close to the founder of Social Status, James Whitner, and the heart of his team: the free lunch. Both colorways of the Social Status x Nike Dunk “Free Lunch” are nods to Chocolate Strawberry Milk that are part of the government’s aid program supporting underserved and disadvantaged children across the United States. United.

But the project does more than create awareness of the gaps in wealth, resources and opportunity that many children – mostly from minorities – still face today. Whitner and his team also remodeled the East Liberty store so that social and educational spaces are in front of the retail space, they opened an art gallery in the same location to remove barriers to entry into the art world for underserved communities, and they have renovated and will operate a community center in the old Whitner neighborhood.

This project, like so many other companies in the Whitaker Group, is global and strives to bring about real and lasting change, aided by storytelling through the product. For more on the Social Status x Nike Dunk “Free Lunch” project, head over to our exclusive interview with Whitner.

The Social Status x Nike Dunk “Free Lunch” pack launches first with “Chocolate Milk” (September 10) and will follow with “Strawberry Milk” (October 15) online and in-store at Social Status.
