Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 ‘Recess’ Pay It Forward Release

The Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 “Recess” launch took place last week and while the sneakers are currently sold out, the Whitaker Group store will not only give people another chance to shop the collaboration, but will offer customers the chance to help the community with a unique release.

Aligned with the start of the school year, this reduction in secondary education aims to raise awareness among parents and families of the difficulties encountered in preparing for the start of the school year. When customers check out on the next release, they’ll be able to provide information about a person in need and/or a back-to-school focused organization they’d like to donate to. Those who don’t have a person or organization in mind can also choose to have the team behind The Whitaker Group’s non-profit sector, The Whitaker Project, select for them.

Whitaker Group founder and owner James Whitner spoke about the upcoming release and why it’s bigger than sneakers. “I remember Christmas and back to school being the worst times of the year – just having nothing, with the excitement hoping for something new but nothing coming,” he said. “It’s a demoralizing feeling, especially as the effects of the economic climate are beginning to deeply affect families at a time when the needs are already dire. We’ve all seen the statistics and understand the pressures of back to school on households. We can’t sit idle when we know the collective power of community as an agent of change – it’s less about sneakers, it’s about enabling that community to come forward and help people more at risk at a time when it can help them focus on what matters most: their education.

Scheduled for release at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, July 22, select sizes of the Social Status x Nike Air Max Penny 1 “Recess” will be available on for a retail price of $190 each.
