SIO to discuss social change

Hyderabad: The Student Islamic Organization (SIO) Telangana has set itself a powerful goal of bringing about the “social reconstruction” of society through “enlightenment, engagement and empowerment”. For this, it plans to ignite the mindset of students and young people towards much needed social change.

SIO, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, is holding a two-day conference on Saturday and Sunday at the Nampally Fairgrounds, to mark the completion of its 40-year journey. The conference intends to point the way forward to tackle the grim situation prevailing in the country on different fronts. “Mere reactionary acts and emotional responses would not help. What is needed is positive and constructive action,” said Dr. Talha Faiyazuddin, State Chairperson, SIO.

The conference will brainstorm and have a threadbare discussion on various issues plaguing society like hate crimes, unemployment, and violence against women. It will highlight the need for a holistic and multidimensional approach to problem solving. For this, the SIO wishes to engage with various stakeholders according to their potential. Parallel sessions are planned with schoolchildren and madrassas as well as with engineering and medical students on the first day. Students will be motivated to play their part in promoting truth and fighting evil in society. They will be told to dream big and become an asset to society. A range of activities including plays, skits, one-acts and motivational talks are planned to engage participants. The day will end with a cultural program titled – Mera payam aur hai. Inspirational poems and the ideological journey of SIO will be highlighted.

On the second day, a public session will take place. Some of the topics for discussion listed are: the fight against fascism, capacity building and the way forward and understanding social change. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi agreed to address the conference. Other renowned speakers include Hamid Mohammed Khan, Chairman, JIH, TS, Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, Member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Syed Muhiuddin Shakir, National Secretary, JIH, Ms. Afsar Jahan, High Court Barrister and Abdul Salam Puthige, Editor-in-Chief, Varthabharati.

An interesting exhibition is also organized on the occasion to showcase the message of the Holy Quran and the life of the Prophet through models.
