Huma Qureshi on Double XL: Social Change Happens Through Fun, Family-Friendly Movies

Actor Huma Qureshi says she decided to make Double XL, a film about body shaming, because she thinks a “fun family entertainer” like the upcoming project can play an important role in bringing about change in society.

Billed as a “slice-of-life comedy” that revolves around bodyweight stereotypes, the film is directed by famed hard hat Satramm Ramani and also stars Sonakshi Sinha.

Double XL explores the journey of two plus size women – Rajshree Trivedi (Qureshi) from Meerut and Saira Khanna (Sinha) from New Delhi as they navigate society’s beauty standards.

“It’s a very important, fun and entertaining film. I can’t wait to share it with everyone. I truly believe that social change happens through fun, commercial and family films,” said Qureshi, who currently plays in the ZEE5 series Mithya, at PTI.

But not all social responsibilities should fall on filmmakers, she stressed.

“We have to be responsible when we make the film. It’s a situation where you have to watch your own choices and why you’re doing it,” the 35-year-old actor added.

Produced by T-Series, Wakaoo Films and Mudassar Aziz, Double XL is slated for release in 2022.

Besides this film, Qureshi is awaiting the release of his Tamil film Valimai, starring Ajith.

She will also be seen in the Netflix movie Monica Oh My Darling and the second season of the SonyLIV Maharani series.
