Building Authentic Community Relationships for Social Change »

As part of the Impact Talk series, the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences will host a session on Wednesday, April 13, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Mark Chupp, Associate Professor and Founding Director of the Community Innovation Network, will present “Nothing About Us Without Us: Building Authentic Community Relationships for Social Change.”

Why are so many projects led by grassroots civic leaders and institutions so often met with rejection, objection and protest from the community? Often the answer is a lack of genuine community engagement with those most affected, resulting in a loss of trust in leaders and institutions. This session will explore the principles and practices of authentic community engagement with case examples of restorative justice, international peacebuilding, community development, and organizational change.

Register online or in person at the Noble Commons at Mandel School. Door prizes will be drawn at random among those present. Six students (three in-person and one online) will have the chance to win one of the following prizes at each Impact Talk:

  • 10 inch Android tablets
  • Bluetooth wireless headphones

Register for the conference.
